Holophrastic Enterprises Inc. consults, develops, implements, and maintains business solutions. Absolutely none of the verbs in that last sentence have any meaning. Basically, it's all about our relationship with the client. We are trusted, it's that simple, and we are very appreciative of that trust.

We do not simply take orders for programming from our clients. Instead, we hear real-world problems and propose solutions to their concerns. Our clients trust us to make all of the technical decisions from start to end; and we are proud to take those hassles away from clients who really have more important things to do within their business. To that end, we keep each client apprised of their technical situation at least biweekly, and we let them do what they do best.

We form long-term relationships with our clients -- typically at least five years long. As trusted members of their team, we endure to solve every problem and to be available to them, whatever their needs. Many of our clients have been disappointed by programmers in the past. Our goal is to ensure that they are never again disappointed with our industry, in which we take much pride.

A given project begins with a brief discussion of the issue to be handled, our team then brain-storms for a few days to organize every appropriate solution, and as many features as we can imagine. We then meet with the client again to pair down the feature list appropriately. We make whatever concessions are necessary in order to implement the solution within given constraints (time, budget, circumstance, usually time). We develop it, implement it, test it, train, adjust, monitor, enhance, and upgrade the project as need be for as long as it is in use.

What We Seek

Holophrastic Enterprises Inc. is always looking for honest programmers and developers. We believe in relationships based on responsibility and accountability. That means you'll be given the assistance and the freedom to work uninhibitted, and you'll earn all of the credit and all of the blame for your work and attention to detail. If you take pride in your work, and in your experience, then we want to work with you.

The terms "attention to detail", "taking pride", "responsibility", "accountability" together amount to the job requirements of every employee, supplier, and contractor that we hire. We are not interested in you for your time, nor for your effort. We want you for your experience -- prior experience that you have coming in, and the experience of your own work along the way. That means that we want you to make decisions, stand by them, build upon them, correct them, and make some more. We look for people who know how to make decisions, and be responsible for them. Yes, that includes having to re-apply effort when a client's dislikes your decision.

We redo a lot of work around here. Client requirements are always changing. So we stay on top of things. A big part of our jobs is to predict these changes, and either develop them ahead of time, or leave "injection points" where predicted features should be implemented in the future. Everything is planned. As a result, every decision is an important one. Are you able to make decisions with long-term effects? Think of it this way: if you make the right decision, the future is easy; if you put in extra work, the future is eay; if you make the wrong decision, and do not put in extra work, the future is incredibly frustrating.

A big part of those decisions is knowing when to make the right decision, when to put in the extra effort, and when to just get it done. The good news? You don't have to make the correct decision. Tha bad news? You are liable for any extra work required. We don't get paid for time, and we don't get paid for effort. We try to reduce both.

And this leads us to the biggest part of the job -- you won't be told what to do. Our clients don't tell us what to do, so we don't know what to do, no we can't tell you what to do, so you get to decide what to do, and you get to redo it if the client doesn't like it. No, it's not fair, but that's what our clients need. If we don't push things along, things simply don't happen. That's why it's so important that we make decisions properly, and that we plan for change. We're pretty good at getting 75% of things 90% right the first time. Yes those numbers are entirely fabricated.

The point is, you'll get no code-spec, no feature listing, and no layout design. Instead you'll get what the client has -- a business challenge. You'll have to devise a solution, select features, create a layout, and figure out how to implement it. We'll talk it out as much as you like, but then it's all yours -- credit and blame.

Life-Style

As we've already discussed, you'll be the sort of person who feels intimately attached to your work. You'll want it to be perfect, and you'll want to be the one to fix it, change it, adjust it, move it. The level of dedication and service that you will require of yourself will be higher than anything that we could require of you.

In return for your work ethic, we, very simply, allow you complete control of your life. We have no work hours, no restrictions, no frustrations, and no problems. We are so commited to our work that we understand every nuance of it. Every project has sufficient time allocated, and every task is well understood. We ensure that no one is left in the dark. You'll be trusted. You'll be given every bit of information available, and you'll be a part of every decision made.

What else can I say? It's your life. You'll work when you want to work, and you'll live when you want to live. Ten minutes or ten hours at a time -- whatever. You can take off any hour of the day, any day of the week, any week of the month, hey even any month of the year. Not every, but certainly any. So you'll never find yourself in that all-too-familiar situation of having to work when you'd rather go out.

If you're asking how any work ever gets done, then we're not interested in you. We want to work -- simply not always. We don't magically become productive, creative, and innovative at 0900, nor do we become useless at 1700 or 1800; we certainly are not efficient throughout the 8- or 9-hour period. Quite frankly, we don't understand how the majority of our friends are capable of such a life-style.

On average, you'll be incredible productive. More impressively, you'll be efficient. . . and all without an alarm-clock.

Hiring Process

We do not read resumes. I can't say that loudly enough. We do not read resumes. Simply put, resumes are poor descriptors of past involvement, poor predictors of future dedication, and most importantly, they say absolutely nothing of work ethic.

First, we'll take you through a gruling multi-step programming interview. You'll be asked to answer simple programming questions specific to the language being used, to devise appropriate solutions to typical problems, and to create a few small programs to resolve some specific requirements. These interviews tend to be between three and five steps. Each step requires between thirty minutes and four hours to complete. We evaluate each step before permitting you to continue on to the next one. If you appreciate the way that we work around here, you'll have no trouble completing the interview with little effort. If you get to the end, you'll get to move on.

The second step is a written interview -- personality questions and life-style attitudes requiring a few paragraphs to answer. This interview enables us to evaluate your fit within our microcosm-of-choice.

If you make it to telephone interview, then you've already got the job. Your first task will be to interview us and decide if we meet your needs.
